Children’s Communication Support

Communication develops through relationship, play, and shared experience.

When children feel understood, they are more able to learn, participate, and connect. My work focuses on meeting children at their developmental level and building skills in ways that feel achievable, engaging and meaningful.

Sessions are practical and play based. Skills are strengthened through interaction and purposeful activities that support language, speech, literacy foundations, and participation in everyday life.

How Communication Support May Look

Children’s communication support can look different for each child, depending on their strengths, needs, and everyday experiences. The examples below describe how communication support may be explored in practice, always through relationship-based, play-centred approaches.

Communication & Behaviour

Behaviour can be a form of communication. Sometimes behaviour reflects communication needs that are still developing or not yet fully understood. I work alongside families and educators to identify patterns, strengthen shared understanding, and develop practical strategies that reduce frustration and increase participation.

Literacy & Early Learning

Literacy grows from strong language, sound awareness, and meaningful engagement with books and print. Support may include phonological awareness, early reading and spelling foundations, narrative skills, and building confidence engaging with books and print. Work is developmentally responsive and paced to the child, never rushed or pressured.
